Prepping - a very important step

Many families look forward to the time when their house will be painted again and they get the feeling of living in a new home.  However, before beginning any painting project, the house must be prepped for the job.  Believe it or not, prep work amounts to more than half of the entire work!  In our opinion, completing all prepping tasks is the most important step when you are starting a painting project in a home or a commercial space.  Prep work serves several purposes.  The first, to make sure the paint stays on the walls or surfaces where it's supposed to be on.  The second, to make sure paint doesn't end up on anything it should not be on.  Finally, prep work also helps with precise trimming and improves the overall result of the project.

For the exterior of the house, one of the first prepping tasks involves pressure washing the whole house.  Pressure washing is done to get rid of all the dirt and grime that's built up on the house over the years.  Another task that comes with exterior home preparation is getting the windows masked, to make sure no stains are put on them.  Any professional painting contractors, painting companies or house painters worth their salt will ensure the surfaces to be painted are clean and the surfaces that shouldn't receive any paint are masked off.

For the interior of the home, one of the first tasks is laying down tarps in the rooms that are going to be painted and masking them off properly to make sure no flooring is exposed.  Second, all the baseboards should be taped off so that they stay their current colour.  All windows and doors should be taped off next.  Any furniture needs to be properly covered as well, or removed from the work areas.  All outlets and light switches should also be taped off to make sure they don't get painted accidentally.  Quality painting contractors will make sure all areas are properly masked off and taped off to ensure an excellent end result for the project.  The amount of masking off will also vary based on how the paint will be applied during the project, such as rolled or sprayed.

These are some of the critical steps involved with prepping a job site before painting begins.  Professional Painters Niagara takes these steps and more to ensure your job is done right the first time.
