Niagara Modern Painting provides full wood staining services.  We specialize in stair cases, handrails, trim carpentry and much, much more.  We can stain all types of wood, which come in a variety of species, such as white oak, red oak, pine and maple.  We can get the stain matched professionally to your liking or a colour that you prefer.  Our suggestion is to match your wood to same shade as your hardwood, or make it a unique colour to create the master piece character of the house.  

The process of staining will bring out the wood grain with the natural colour chosen.  We apply several coats of polyurethane with sanding in between to create a smooth finish.  We can apply oil based or water based stains, depending on the application parameters.  In general, our staining process brings out the character of the wood and creates a master piece for your home.

As for our polyurethane stains, we use a special brand from Toronto, Ontario.  It's available in water based and oil based, in a variety of sheens.  The stains are extremely durable and dry with an impeccable finish. 

Advantages/Disadvantages of oil base and water base polyurethanes:

Oil base
• High-Gloss/Semi-Gloss/Satin finishes available
• 8-12 hours drying time 
• Not the most environmentally safe product or healthy while it omits solvent fumes 
• Combustible (while drying)
• Normal application consists of 3 coats and difficult to work with
• Oil base products will Yellow over time.
• Extremely durable
 
Water Base
• High-Gloss/Semi-Gloss/Satin finishes available
• Dries in 2-3 hours
• Environmentally and healthy safe
• Non-Combustible
• Dries perfectly clear-will not change color in time – Clear finish
• UV protection
• Normal application is 3 coats and easy to work with
• Very Durable
